Ghost Towns In Oklahoma Introduction

Welcome To Ghost Towns In Oklahoma

Ghost Towns In Oklahoma is dedicated to locating, documenting and preserving the history of Oklahoma. "Our future began with our past. That history is what we want to preserve and pass on to our children so that they will understand and create their future." - Richard Gorremans

Two things have been the driving force in discovering our future. Our dreams and our past. We learn from our past and with that knowledge we use our imagination to create our future from our dreams. Everything we see, use and sometimes try to destroy began with a dream. We have the power to take that dream and make it reality. As soon as we make those dreams a reality they become our history. A history that, if preserved, can be used to create a new future.

My goal with Ghost Towns In Oklahoma is simple and difficult at the same time. Oklahoma has a history that helped form the backbone of America. Farming, ranching, cultivating crops to ship on railways across the country and oil fields. These are just a few of the accomplishments the proud people of Oklahoma have endured and thrived on.

As the country grew, it changed. The needs of American's especially changed as the imaginations of our innovators transformed their dreams into a new reality. Transformations that included larger populations. A larger population that required more food, more clothes, more ways to travel, more everything.

Ghost Towns In Oklahoma is an informational and photographic project to record locations and historical information about the numerous ghost towns in the State of Oklahoma.

Being classified as a "Ghost Town" does not mean the location is haunted. A Ghost Town is a location that has been abandoned or was once a flourishing town that has been almost deserted over time.

Many of the towns listed on this site still exist. These towns often have only a small number of residents now compared to 1800's or early 1900's. Some had populations in the thousands and now often have 100 or less residents. Many have remains of old structures while others have just a graveyard.

What Is A Ghost Town?

Being classified as a "Ghost Town" does not mean the location is haunted. A Ghost Town is a location that has been abandoned or was once a flourishing town that has been almost deserted over time.

Over the years the sites recorded have decayed and new ghost towns are in the making due to economic issues. The ultimate end product for this site will be the publication of a book illustrating the current state of the Ghost Towns In Oklahoma.

Conclusion

In the coming years I look forward to visiting the numerous locations that have been identified or suggested as being a Ghost Town. Join me here and on my facebook group page as I document these towns and their history.
